An encoder is a sensing device that translates either linear or rotary motion into a predictable electrical output. Magnetic encoder technology has shown to be superior to existing optical encoder technology in areas of temperature range, contamination resistance, operational life, shock and vibration, critical assembly operations and in many cases, cost. Two main encoder applications are panels (for user inputs) and feedback (for OEM – PCB assemblies and packaged encoders). Common uses include vending machines, equipment controls, flow meters and medical devices.
