Thermopiles are used for contactless temperature measurement. The measurement principle is based on the detection of infrared radiation, using micro-machined devices in silicon based technology. The device`s inherent DC coupling characteristic allows the operation without mechanical chopper. Many applications in different markets such as medical, automotive, appliance industry and security systems demonstrate the unique relation of high precision to price. Applications include thermometers, microwave ovens, room air conditioners, toasters, hair dryers, pyrometers, car climate controls, gas-detection and presence detection products.
